Men's Fashion, 1991
Typically, fashion trends repeat every twenty years. Check out this image of 1991 fashion trends. The "V neck" look is present. The other hot item you will see is a scarf. Sometimes it is hard for a man to pull off a scarf, but try wearing a scarf. The other look that is great, is the layer look. If you are going to wear layers, try doing it with similar colors or start with the basic grey, black and white.

Let me tell you, the V neck look is hot! This does not necessarily mean that men need to show off their chest. I only found a few images, but the first one is my personal favorite. It is the button down shirt with a hooded sweatshirt. I love the "dressy look" with a bit of causalness.
I also love a men's suit vest over a t-shirt. (It's the same kind of "causal-dressy" look). The bottom image isn't necessarily my favorite look, but it shows you some different styles of the "V neck". If you are looking for a few more images, check out Dolce and Gabbana's website.
Five Fashion "laws" for men.
Last night I was out with some friends. After looking around the bar and speaking to one of my guy friends, I realized how much men love fashion advice. They want to dress in style and they are not always sure how to do it. They want advice on what to wear. This afternoon I found some good tips for men to follow/use.
These tips are simple but they are “men’s fashion laws” for looking attractive. No matter what season, no matter what style, following these guidelines will keep you looking your absolute best.
Guy with layers
1. Layering—If you want an eye-catching outfit without resorting to “peacocking” then develop an eye for detail and combinations. Nothing expresses your personality better than 2 or 3 layers of carefully coordinated clothes. I still stand by my own all-time favorite 3 piece sexy casual combination: 1.) button-down shirt, 2.) light, zip-up hoodie, and 3.) sports coat. Just mix and match whites, blacks, and grays to create an interesting outfit (without coming off try-hard).
2. Clothes that fit—I say it again and again, but I still see 4 out of 5 guys wearing baggy clothes that make them look sloppy. I don’t care if you’re 20-30 pounds overweight, you’d STILL look better wearing clothes that fit. Nothing says slovenly existence better than clothing that sags off your body. So, as a rule of thumb, if you can grasp more of a handful of fabric on your shirt or pants that means it’s way too baggy. Also, if ANYTHING is bunched (e.g., pants legs), get it tailored—immediately. Bunchy and baggy is equal to sloppy and ugly.
(Note: And, yes, that includes your jacket—especially your jacket!)

3. Unbutton, untucked—Again, another faux pas that seems obvious, but guys are out committing it again and again. Just type “men’s fashion” into Google and see how many pictures feature guys with tucked-in or fully-buttoned shirts. And, if that doesn’t convince you, go out and observe how many guys with hot girls have their shirts tucked or buttons buttoned. YET STILL, at every conference I speak at, on every live program I teach, and every time I’m recognized out, I meet dating advice students who tuck in their shirts in and are fully buttoned up. In fact, if I’ve met you and my first comment was, “Untuck your shirt and undo about 3 of those buttons,” don’t be offended (I say it to everyone); however, heed my advice! Women want guys who let it “hang out”—so do it!
Very Important Law.. invest in some standard expensive staple pieces. They will last and will go far.
4. Quality versus quantity—I doubt anyone reading is attending runway shows or salivating over this year’s Prada outdoor line. Though, buying “cheap” brands because it saves you a couple bucks is just not worth it in the long run. I, too, was once guilty of “bargain hunting,” trying to find all my clothing at inexpensive stores like H&M and TJ Maxx. While you will certainly find some cool pieces there (especially shirts and vests to incorporate into layering), for fashion necessities go with quality brands. For example, shell out a little extra money for jeans and jackets/coats. While it may hurt a bit up front to drop $150 for a pair of Diesel jeans or $400 for an Armani trench coat, you’ll look forward to wearing these items and feel good every time you put them on.
This is great, please try ... It's ok to look different and wear something you might not always pick. You don't want to look like every other guy. You want to stand out. As long as it doesn't make you look like a clown, wear it and own it. Be confident and it will look good.
5. Experiment a bit—No, I don’t mean that type of experimenting. I mean experiment with some “riskier” fashion items. For example, try wearing a neck tie out or a vest or a button-down argyle sweater. Thumb through an issue of GQ and see what the “very fashionable” male models are wearing and experiment with it. Sure, it may feel a bit “incongruent” at first, but you’ll probably find lots of people commenting on your intrepid outfit. Sure some guys may tool you, but the corollary to that is that some girls will find you irresistibly sexy. Again, let me just reiterate that this is NOT “peacocking” where you wear something absurd simply to get a reaction out of people—this is you being “highly stylish” and in synch with tomorrow’s fashion staples. And who knows, you just may stumble on a “fashion law” that applies only to you and makes you look devilishly more charming than the average guy who’s still going out in graphic print t-shirts and American Eagle jeans. (If that’s you, please stop immediately.)

Paul Smith Shoes

As being a young lady who works in Fashion Industry, I am constantly checking out new styles and window shopping. Yesterday I went for a walk and happened to walk by the Paul Smith Store. I noticed the fabulous men's shoes in the window. I admired the detail of the shoe and the "laced up shoe". Any detail to a shoe adds great character and the laced shoe represents the trend of "tied shoes". The pair of shoes in this picture I believe retails for $455.00, but you could buy any pair of "tied shoes". The picture on the left isn't the best, but you can check them out at Neiman Marcus.

Absolutely Adorable... Button Boots with Bow Socks.
Recently, I saw this young lady with boots that had buttons all the way down the side and she wore longer socks with bows. (please see picture on left) This season you will notice lots of boots, but each pair of boots has its own unique detail. When looking for boots this season, look for something different or add your own unique style to the look of the boot.

Laced boots
Laced shoes or boots are a hot trend this season. If you look back at the early 90's fashion you will see several pairs of boots and shoes with laces. Recently, I went home to the Mid-West, Minnesota, to visit family. When I was at home I found my old Dr. Marten Boots from high school (mid 90's). It was a must to bring them back to California...San Francisco! The next time I wear them, I will post a picture. In the meantime, please check out the cute "two toned" laced boots pictured on the left.

Spoon Rings
Spoon rings are an old and new trend, kind of like an oldy but goodie!!!! Spoon rings have once again made the fashion list. Actually any piece of old jewelry is in. The spoon ring in this picture was my mother's ring. Next time you see family, ask them if they have any old jewelry. They might have items they would never wear, but you would love to wear. Maybe you even have some yourself. Dig through your past jewelry and see if you might want to wear it now. Another trend is to wear a ring around a necklace. If you find your father's or grandfather's class ring etc. put it on a necklace and wear it as a piece of jewelry. It will be a statement and piece that will start conversation. Make jewelry personal.

Hot Trend, Boyfriend Watch

Vintage Jewelry at the Alameda Flea Market

If you live in Northern California, you’ve probably heard of the Alameda Flea Market. It’s open the first Sunday of every month. Recently, my co-worker bought this fabulous piece of vintage jewelry from the market. It was under $25.00. The item can be worn as a necklace or a boorch. Please see pictures. If you buy or own a piece of jewelry similiar, make sure you style it with a simple top. My co-worker styled it with a white button down. It looked fabulous!

Hello Fashionista,
Today is my first day of blogging. This blog will present you with fashion trends, tips and new ways to style yourself on an affordable budget. You will learn the latest fashion trends, find good deals and most important you will feel good about who you are.
Today I will share with you two recent pieces I found at a garage sale and vintage shop. Vintage shops are the best, especially if you can recognize trends and brand names. It is important to look at items and think how you could bring them up to date. The best thing about vintage clothing/jewelry is typically you will only find one of each item, which means you will be the only one to have the treasure. It's like finding the treasure in the treasure hunt.
This past weekend I bought a dress for under $20.00. Today I am wearing it and I can't explain how compliments I have already received. Pictures will be posted later. The good thing about a vintage dress, is typically they are one of a kind. Nobody else will be able to find the exact same one. The dress I bought came with a different belt. You will need to be able to bring it up to date. For example the belt it came with, was small and thin. I accessorized the dress with a thicker black belt. I could now use the original belt for a headband. Please see pictures.
A couple of weeks ago I found this fantastic old bracelet at a garage sale. The lady wanted $5.00 and I asked if she would take $3.00. A garage sale is the best time to bargain. Try to bargain, but be polite and make sure you are being reasonable!
